Personal approach
Being able to motivate students and helping them realise their true potential is key for me. This can be difficult when the student does not have the same passion as you do for a subject or if they are falling behind their peers. After first meeting a student, I will make a quick assessment of what I believe they need most from me, which could be anything from gradual academic improvement through to exam techniques and past paper practice. Whatever the goal, I make students feel positive about their work and their own abilities, as I believe confidence is truly conducive to the best work and is the greatest motivating factor.
Building rapport and trust with students is another key element to a successful tutor-tutee relationship. I endeavour to make the atmosphere of our lessons calm and open; one where students are not afraid to be wrong and to ask questions intuitively. However, I do like to keep my students goal-orientated and set targets to keep them on track. They are clear of my expectations of them and I find an appropriate level of pressure drives students to bring out the best in themselves.
Every student is unique; they have their own learning style and assimilate information differently. I adapt my methods and approach to suit each student's ability and learning curve. The flexibility in my teaching ensures the needs of every student are catered to. I derive just as much pleasure from helping a struggling C grade student to obtain a B, as pushing an A grade student towards an A*.

Testimonials
Teresa has been teaching our son Latin and French for over three years. She has been an excellent teacher, very professional and helpful. Our son has benefitted enormously from the experience and we would recommend her to others without reservation.
Mrs Howe, mother of Year 9 Eton College student
Teresa has tutored me English, Maths and French (since Year 7 at DGS) and then Latin and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning to help me prepare for exams and studying in UK. She teaches the subjects following the syllabus of UK schools which helps a lot, for some topics that haven't been covered in HK, so you have to learn it before hand to catch up with the other students. She can help you practice every aspect of the topics you have to learn and work on your weaknesses to help you achieve great results. The good thing about her is that when you don't understand something you can just ask straight away and she will explain it until you fully understand it. She is a lot of fun and her lessons are always interesting and entertaining.
Student, Year 9, St. Catherine's School
Throughout my 4 years with Teresa, I learnt many Latin comprehension skills to be well prepared for my GCSE and hopefully an A*. At the beginning, I felt I was struggling at Eton as I was a beginner at Latin, when others had learnt it before. But Teresa has been teaching me many different techniques and extra vocabulary, for a very good approach to my GCSE in May. Her extra notes helped me a lot and now I'm in the top set of Latin at school.
